Letting Fans Name Their Price for Buying CDs at Your Shows

February 13th, 2009 · by matt

Our friends at Music Think Tank posted an intriguing idea the other day – offering your CDs at shows for whatever a fan will pay for them.  This is like last year’s approach of Radiohead with the digital release of their new album, but applied to the physical world.  Check out the examples they list in their post a few days ago.  They propose that, in the end, fans will end up paying more.

It is certainly worth a shot one evening to try this and see what happens – especially if you are selling short 5-6 song CDs like the examples in MTT’s post.  However, if you use an unmanned merch table, don’t leave out too many CDs (just in case).
